Hi, what you're describing is actually more common than you might think!
Sometimes when we're bored, our brain starts looking for something exciting to do. But when we finally choose an activity, it doesn't give us the same feeling we were hoping for, so we still feel bored or even more bored than before.
This can happen for lots of reasons:
- You're feeling tired and don't have much energy to enjoy the activity.
- You've done the activity so often that it doesn't feel as exciting right now.
- You're in the mood for something different but aren't quite sure what.
- Your brain is craving a challenge, novelty, or social connection rather than the activity itself.
A few things you could try are:
✨ Switch things up. If you usually read, try drawing. If you usually game, try going for a walk or listening to a podcast.
✨ Do something for just 10 minutes. Sometimes getting started is the hardest part, and you may find yourself enjoying it once you're into it.
✨ Make a boredom list. Write down 20 things you enjoy, from big activities to tiny ones. Then when you're bored, pick something from the list instead of trying to think of ideas in the moment.
✨ Spend time with other people. Even a quick chat with a friend or family member can make a favourite activity feel more enjoyable.
✨ Don't put pressure on yourself to have fun. Sometimes it's okay to have a quiet, slightly boring day. Those days happen to everyone!
Most importantly, don't worry that there's something wrong with you. Everyone goes through phases where even their favourite hobbies don't seem as exciting as usual. Often the feeling passes after a little time or a change of routine. 😊Vicki
