The #BeYouPeriod campaign from Lil-Lets is breaking down stereotypes and making space for every menstruation experience. Based on thousands of real questions asked on the Lil-Lets Talk platform, (www.lil-letstalk.co.za) the campaign is a response to the overwhelming number of young people asking, “Am I normal if…?”
Keryn Brien, Marketing Manager at Lil-Lets, shares: “Our bodies and periods are unique — but when only one version of ‘normal’ is shown, it leaves many feeling unsure or unseen. #BeYouPeriod is about changing that.”
This movement encourages everyone with a period to explore what works for their own body, free from shame or stigma. It’s about access, education, and feeling empowered to just be you. Period.
Be You. Period was penned for Lil-Lets by local poet, Puno Selesho, who is featured in the campaign along with inspiring menstrual health rights activists including Nokuzola Ndwandwe (Team Free Sanitary Pads), Pontsho Pilane (author of Flow, founder of the Free to Bleed campaign), Farah Fortune (founder of The Pad Run), Lucy Khofi (founder of #RealTalkWithLucyKhofi), and Megan Ross (author of Milk Fever and lead responder on Lil-Lets Talk).
The campaign also includes human rights activist, Regina Mary Ndlovu, and trans rights activist, Nino Ayanda Maphosa.
‘It was really important to us to work with and celebrate the people who are already making an impact in this space, and we’re so proud that many of them are either actively involved in or beneficiaries of our Lil-Lets Talk platform,’ explains Keryn Brien.
Lil-Lets matches every question asked and every answer posted on Lil-Lets Talk with a donation of a pack of Maxi Pads to those in need. Over 42 000 packs of Maxi Pads have already been distributed to Lil-Lets Talk beneficiaries.
The better we understand our bodies and our periods, the easier it is to choose what works for us when it comes to our periods.
